MICHAEL Fish, the weatherman who so memorably pooh-poohed talk of a
hurricane the night before the great storm of October 1987, was equally
unfortunate this time round.
As 100-mph winds lashed the country, Fish was insulated in a central
London hotel, telling a conference on crisis management that this time they
would be able to forecast the next storm. He made no reference to what was
happening outside.
