PRESIDENT BUSH鈥橲 science adviser, Allan Bromley, has finally been elected
to the National Academy of Sciences. Regarded as the US鈥檚 chief repository
of scientific wisdom, the NAS advises the government and the public.
Members nominate, consider and vote on candidates for membership, which
is considered to be a recognition of a distinguished scientific career.
Bromley was a physicist at Yale University and president of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science before becoming science adviser
to the White House. He has been nominated several times, according to sources
in Washington DC. The NAS does not reveal the names of those candidates
who fail to win membership.
