Britain is trying to close the 拢45 million gap between its contributions
to the CERN particle accelerator in Geneva and the amount of equipment it
sells to the facility. The Department of Trade and Industry has set up an
industrial liaison unit to help firms to sell more to high-energy research
facilities around the world.
Britain contributes 拢56 million a year to CERN, but supplies
just 拢11 million worth of equipment. The DTI says Britain should
be able to increase its share. It has its eye on the Large Hadron Collider,
which will cost 拢800 million to build over six years.
