This giant walk-in cell, magnified a million times, is the centrepiece
of the Wellcome Trust鈥檚 Science for Life exhibition, which opened last week.
The permanent exhibition, on show at the Trust鈥檚 refurbished building in
London鈥檚 Euston Road, is intended to attract young people into biomedical
research and also stimulate adults with an interest in medicine and the
politics of science. David Weatherall from the University of Oxford, one
of the trust鈥檚 governors and president of the British Association for the
Advancement of Science, launched the centre鈥檚 exhibition. He said it has
an important role at a time when many ethical issues were demanding a well-informed
debate between doctors and the public.
