TOURISTS in Brazil will soon be able to admire the wonders of the sea from
the comfort of a 鈥済reen submarine鈥�, currently undergoing trials off the coast
near Rio de Janeiro. The submarine, called Argos, is powered by batteries in
an attempt to keep pollution to a minimum.
The 11-metre long Argos will take 16 鈥渁rgonauts鈥� on hour long trips to a
depth of 30 metres in the Grande bay, where they can see wrecks and marine
life through its domed acrylic windows. 鈥淥ur country has some of the most
beautiful marine flora and fauna in the world 鈥� who wouldn鈥檛 want to admire
rare scenery only accessible to professional divers?鈥� says Paulo Tupinamba,
president of Consub, which developed the submarine.
