The nature of mathematics

FINDING order out of chaos, points out Benoit Mandelbrot, has been a human preoccupation since records have been kept. He introduces Bill Hirst鈥檚 collection of photographs Fractal Landscapes From the Real World (Cornerhouse, pp 84, 拢16.95 pbk). The photographs range from the sea defences at Colwyn Bay in Wales to the wilds of Galway.
