Far-sighted

HELP is at hand for companies that want to capitalise on the British government鈥檚 Technology Foresight Programme. Thousands of scientists and engineers from academia and industry have taken part in the exercise, which is aimed at identifying the technologies that hold the most commercial promise for Britain over the next two decades.

But the results, expected over the next few months, will generate a vast amount of data covering 15 sectors of industry, from biotechnology and leisure to construction and telecommunications.

This is where the London-based Centre for Exploitation of Science and Technology, an independent think-tank funded by industry and government, hopes to help. The nonprofit-making organisation has set aside 拢5 million to be spent over the next five years on analysing the results for companies, or groups of companies.

Bob Whelan, chief executive of CEST, says: 鈥淲e will show companies how they can apply Foresight鈥檚 output to their own corporate strategies.鈥
