Home work

TELEWORKING only works for workaholics, according to the market analysis company Forrester Research of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It can also cost more money than it saves.

Forrester asked North America鈥檚 Fortune 1000 companies who on their staff is teleworking. Nine out of ten are executives who put in extra hours in the evenings and at weekends. Only 11 per cent are office workers doing routine jobs from home for part of the week.

鈥淏usinesses will use telecommuting to squeeze more value out of current workers, not to create a cottage industry of corporately financed home offices,鈥 says David Goodtree, who wrote Forrester鈥檚 report.

Also, because second-hand PCs and modems transmit data so slowly, a company has to spend more than $4000 on a good computer and modem to keep phone bills down.
