Swing low: While sitting on a playground swing, I have no reaction mass and nothing to push against (excluding the ground for the sake of this argument). I am puzzled because, given a small initial movement, I can increase the amplitude of the swing’s movement by simply changing my posture on the seat at the peak of each swing. How?

Sticking doors: My fridge door is kept shut by a magnetic strip in a flexible plastic seal. If I attempt to open the door soon after closing it, it seems to be held shut by a vacuum for a few seconds. Why is this?
