Own goals galore

THREE local teams form a league in which they play each other several
times, earning 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Part way through the
season the table is such that, with letters consistently replacing digits and
different letters used for different digits, part of its reads as below.

Although Attack is ahead of Brave which is ahead of Calamity (if teams have
equal points then goal difference determines the order), Calamity has played
more games than Brave which has played more games than Attack.

What were the scores in the games between Attack and Brave?

A 拢10 book token will be awarded to the sender of the first correct
answer opened on Thursday 18 April. The Editor鈥檚 decision is final. Please
send entries to Enigma 866 New 杏吧原创, King鈥檚 Reach Tower, Stamford Street,
London SE99 0BB. The winner of Enigma 860 was C. J. Eacott of Winchester.

Answer to Enigma 860 Weight for it!

Corrections

WITH all the usual best attempts by authors, referees and editor to ensure
the weekly Enigma puzzles are watertight and have unique and definite
solutions, we seem to have hit a bad patch:

852 The answer given proved not to be the minimum total edge-length sought,
rather it should be 81 instead of 83 yards. Congratulations to the 22 entrants
with this answer. The Editor decided on a random draw of these entries and now
declares D. W. Porter of Norton, Cleveland, the true winner.

860 The first line of Q3 should read, 鈥淎s Q2 but now I can replace six
鈥︹. The winner has been selected only on Q1 and Q2.

863 The penultimate sentence was meant to imply that fewer than half the
balls were heavier than 25. Apologies to all puzzled puzzlers.
Ed.
