Last month, Congressman Ed Markey of Massachusetts presented a bill to
protect the privacy of Americans online. In response, a group of companies doing
business on the Internet has now formed a nonprofit-making organisation called
eTrust (http://www.etrust.org). The plan is to license a series of standard
logos to Web sites, which will tell anyone logging on how much information is
being collected about them, and how it may be used.
