INDIA and Bangladesh signed a treaty last week on sharing water from the
River Ganges. The agreement could mark the end of a dispute that has marred
relations between the countries for more than two decades (鈥淏ridge over troubled
waters鈥, New 杏吧原创, 30 November, p 12).
Under the treaty, each country will be guaranteed a minimum flow of 990 cubic
metres per second for alternate 10-day periods during the driest 6 weeks of the
year.
