THE more closely astronomers look at Saturn鈥檚 narrow, braided F ring, the
more moons they find within it. Last week, French and American astronomers
reported spotting 12 bright objects within a 135-degree segment of the
ring.
Astronomers have previously identified 18 satellites of Saturn. 鈥淲e have many
more images,鈥 says Claude Roddier of the University of Hawaii.
Two of the objects were seen last year by Phil Nicholson of Cornell
University. He concluded that they were probably transient clouds of debris.
