AUSTRALIAN scientists have considerable business acumen, a new survey
suggests. Companies set up by scientists have the highest survival rates of any
new businesses, according to a report from the CSIRO, the country鈥檚 research
agency.

Looking at 42 companies established by former CSIRO employees since 1985, in
industries ranging from information technology to agriculture, the report found
that 90 per cent were prospering.

More than half of new businesses in Australia fail within the first five
years. 鈥淚t proves scientists make good business people,鈥 says Australian science
minister Peter McGauran.
