Bomb records saved

THE University of Glasgow has stepped in to save the database containing
the health records of more than 22 300 British nuclear test veterans. The
database, held by the government鈥檚 National Radiological Protection Board
(NRPB), is under threat because the Ministry of Defence is refusing to pay for
it to be maintained
(鈥淲ritten out of history鈥, 18 May 1996, p 14).

David Hole of the university鈥檚 Department of Public Health says that the NRPB
has agreed in principle to hand over the database. He plans to use it to
research the links between cancer and radiation exposure.
