The Internet last week echoed to the sound of cyberlibertarians
congratulating each other when the US Supreme Court threw out the Communications
Decency Act (CDA). Celebrations could be short-lived, however, as legislators
look for other ways to tame the Internet.
The Citizens Internet Empowerment Coalition (http://www.ciec.org) hosts
statements from Bill Clinton and three other legislators proposing fresh laws to
clean up the Net.
One of the Supreme Court judges who debated the CDA says it
is still 鈥渃onstitutional鈥 in some situations. Justice Sandra Day O鈥機onnor says
companies operating inside adults-only zones on the Web could be bound by the
CDA. More at: http://www. freenix.fr/netizen/304-e.html.
