Giving a blood sample has gone high-tech. The 鈥渓asette鈥 from Cell Robotics
International of Albuquerque, New Mexico, uses a burst of laser light to
puncture a finger instead of a sharp steel lancet. A laser reduces the risk of
cross contamination and accidents. The US Federal Drugs Administration has
approved the lasette for testing blood glucose, and may soon approve it for use
by diabetics at home.
