Hydride power

A bus powered by hydrogen has begun carrying its first passengers in Augusta,
Georgia. The hydrogen on the bus is stored as nickel hydride. When heated, the
nickel hydride releases the hydrogen to power the engine. The new bus does not
carry any compressed gas. 鈥淲e have now met the challenge of making hydrogen a
safe fuel,鈥 says a spokesman for the US Department of Energy.
