A NEW species of monkey has been discovered in Brazil. The black-capped dwarf
marmoset, spotted by Dutch biologist Marc van Roosemalen of the National
Institute for Amazonian Research in Manaus, has a green back, an orange tummy
and a black crowned head.
The monkey, which van Roosemalen will describe in next month鈥檚 issue of the
Brazilian journal Goeldiana, lives in the lower Rio Madeira of the
southeast Amazon. 鈥淏iologically this is terra incognita, unstudied since
Wallace鈥檚 time,鈥� he says.
