Spill alert

The bioluminescent bacteria inside sensors for spotting environmental
contaminants can now call in the cleaners themselves. Researchers at Oak Ridge
National Laboratory in Tennessee, are adding light detectors and radio
transmitters to the chips containing genetically engineered bacteria. When the
bugs glow in the presence of a particular chemical, light detectors will trigger
a radio signal alerting the cleanup crew before the spill becomes a
disaster.
