People who work in air-conditioned offices suffer more than twice as many
respiratory problems as those who work in naturally ventilated buildings,
according to a study by INSERM, the French medical research agency. Dan
Teculescu from INSERM said the study, which was released last month, could help
explain the 鈥渟ick building syndrome鈥 reported in air-conditioned offices in
Britain, Italy and Scandinavia. The researchers say that the recirculated air
carries bacteria and fungi that spread infections.
