Physicists at the University of Kentucky have developed a friction-free
superconducting bearing that allows objects to spin at room temperature. The
physicists suspended a metal rod magnetically in a cooled, insulated cylinder.
The rod, which was at room temperature, was free to spin. Only the cylinder had
to be kept cold.
