As Microsoft boss Bill Gates was testifying before the US Senate about his
company鈥檚 business practices last week, an unidentified hacker was attacking
hundreds of Web servers that use Microsoft software. The attacks affected
computers running the Windows NT and Windows 95 operating systems, leaving them
waiting for data that never arrived.
Microsoft issued a security notice saying that the attacks were of a type
known as 鈥淏oink鈥�. This type of attack was first seen in January, after which
Microsoft issued software to close the loophole. Only computers that had not
been updated crashed, and many of these recovered automatically.
