America Online, the world’s largest e-mail service provider, has come up with
a novel way to break the vicious circle that traps homeless people: they can’t
get a job if they have no address and can’t afford a home if they have no job.
AOL is giving free e-mail accounts to 14 shelters run by the British charity for
the homeless Centrepoint. Each of the 200 residents will have a private e-mail
address for six months and they can use Centrepoint’s computers to send off job
applications.
