Space mirror grounded

A plan by Russian scientists to put a giant mirror in space has been
postponed.

The scientists announced in late June that they planned to launch a 25-metre
flexible mirror into orbit, where it would unfurl and reflect sunlight onto
sites all over the northern hemisphere. The mirror was to ride 鈥減iggyback鈥 into
space on a Progress cargo vessel being used to resupply the Mir space station in
August
(This Week, 20 June, p 4).

But now the Russian Space Agency says there is no room for the mirror on the
August mission. They are considering rescheduling the launch for November.
