Martian devils

Lines on the surface of Mars may have been carved by 鈥渄ust devils鈥.

Images from a camera on NASA鈥檚 Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft show thin dark
lines measuring up to 15 metres by 17 kilometres. Project scientists say the
images add to evidence that they are due to dust devils, small column-shaped
vortices of wind seen in dry regions on Earth. They suck up dust like mini
tornadoes and etch their way across the surface before dying out.
