Britain鈥檚 main nuclear weapons plant at Aldermaston in Berkshire is facing
its first prosecution for breaching radiation safety rules. Hunting Brae, the
company that runs the plant, has been charged by the Health and Safety Executive
(HSE) and will appear in court in August.
The charges arise from an incident last December in which two workers inhaled
plutonium while dismantling pipes. The HSE says that although the radiation
doses received were small, 鈥渢he incident had the potential to cause more serious
