The WHO鈥檚 new director-general, Gro Harlem Brundtland, hit the ground running
when she took office last week. 鈥淓veryone is gobsmacked,鈥� says one insider. 鈥淪he
is just moving so fast.鈥�
One of the new WHO chief鈥檚 first tasks was to appoint a senior management
team to group together the troubled organisation鈥檚 50 programmes into clusters.
She has also set up a programme to produce accurate health statistics for each
region and help countries draw up health policies based on sound evidence.
Several senior managers and executive directors have been asked to resign.
