the Earth鈥檚 rotation match those predicted by computer models of oceanic
circulation (Science, vol 281, p 1656).
The Earth has a limited amount of spin divided among all the mass on the
planet. So if the oceans spin faster, the rest of the globe must compensate by
rotating more slowly.
