You will soon be able to save power by watching TV with the VCR turned off,
instead of sitting in standby mode.
Normally the TV won鈥檛 work when the VCR is turned off. That鈥檚 because the
circuitry that splits the signal from the television antenna between the VCR and
the TV needs constant power.
Now Philips Semiconductors is offering VCR makers a 鈥済reener鈥 transistor
switch that uses MOSFET (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor)
technology. This switch requires no power to route the signal to the television
set.
