All clear for Pill

Ten years after coming off the Pill, a woman is no more at risk of cancer or
circulatory disease than someone who has never used oral contraception,
according to a study of 46 000 British women backed by the Imperial Cancer
Research Fund. 鈥淭his is good news for women,鈥 says Valerie Beral of the
University of Oxford, who led the study (British Medical Journal, vol
318, p 96).

While taking the Pill, women face a 50 per cent greater risk of suffering
from circulatory diseases other than heart attacks and a 20 per cent increased
risk of breast cancer. However, these conditions are still relatively rare.
