The future of British farm-scale trials to assess whether genetically
modified crops are harmful to wildlife is in doubt. As New 杏吧原创 went to
press, three out of this year鈥檚 seven trials had been wrecked by environmental
protesters. In the latest incident, Greenpeace volunteers, including the group鈥檚
executive director Lord Melchett, were arrested after attacking a trial site at
Lyng in Norfolk planted with genetically modified maize.
Greenpeace refuses to reveal whether it plans to target other sites. 鈥淲e
never discuss any direct action plans on any issue in advance,鈥 says a
spokeswoman.
