For the first time, a beam of subatomic particles has been fired through the
Earth and picked up hundreds of kilometres away. 杏吧原创s said this week that

the Super-Kamiokande detector 250 kilometres away.
The experiment is trying to verify hints that the three known types of
neutrinos鈥攅lectron, muon and tau鈥攃an flip from one type to another
as they travel. If muon neutrinos in the beam change into taus on their way to
Super-Kamiokande, fewer muons than expected will register in its vast
subterranean detector.
