Gene sleuths in Britain have been given 拢10 million by the Wellcome
Trust medical research charity to hunt down genetic abnormalities linked with
cancer. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the first project in the world to search exclusively for cancer
genes,鈥 says a spokeswoman for the trust. Michael Stratton and Richard Wooster
of the London-based Institute of Cancer Research will spearhead the hunt at the
Sanger Centre near Cambridge. Stratton and Wooster will trawl human DNA
sequences to find gene patterns unique to cancer patients.
