It could happen: you鈥檙e Rollerblading along, when suddenly an ice storm
strikes. But not to worry. The sports shoe specialist MGM of Treviso in Italy
has developed the Scout shoe, which has interchangeable in-line wheels and
ice-skating blades. In just a couple of seconds, you can be wearing ice
skates鈥攚ithout even having to take off your boots. Key to this
transformable skate is a tough polymer sole that is moulded to allow a skate
attachment plate to snap on; the principle is similar to a ski-locking
mechanism. For areas where skating is banned, MGM says the sole is flexible
enough to walk in.
