Powercom Control Systems of Israel has a trick to fool people who try and
tamper with household electricity meters. One scam it reveals is to drill a hole
in the meter and pour in sugary fluids to attract insects, which stick on the
rotating wheel and slow it down. Powercom鈥檚 tamper-proof meter (EP 980 002) has
marks on the wheel and light detectors to check its speed. A circuit in the
meter briefly accelerates the wheel, and if it spins slower than expected, the
meter transmits an alert signal to the electricity supplier.
