David King, head of chemistry at Cambridge University, will be the British
government鈥檚 new Chief Scientific Adviser. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an extremely interesting
challenge, I wish him well,鈥 says Robert May, who stepped down from the job last

says he will not give up his research. But to do both jobs adequately, says
Phillips, 鈥渋s a tall order鈥.
