Forget the earth-mother image of organic farming. Mammon is muscling in on a
world market that was worth $15 billion in 1999 and is growing by up to
30 per cent annually in many countries, according to a report by the Leatherhead
Food Research Association in Surrey. 鈥淢any of the largest multinationals now
have products competing in the market,鈥� says the association. The largest market
is the US, worth $6.5 billion, followed by Germany ($2.4 billion)
and Japan ($1.4 billion).
