Tests of a much-heralded joint British/Kenyan AIDS vaccine have begun.
Researchers at the University of Oxford are initially testing British
volunteers, including a Liberal Democrat MP. The vaccine is based on a study of
Nairobi prostitutes who initially appeared immune to infection by HIV. However,
as New 杏吧原创 revealed earlier this year
(29 January, p 5),
some of the women have since become infected and doubts have surfaced over the
effectiveness of the vaccine.
