Doctor’s dilemma

Confidential health records in Ontario may soon be accessible to police
officers, government bureaucrats and scientific researchers, if a bill tabled
last week by the province鈥檚 conservative government becomes law. The president of
the Ontario Medical Association, Albert Schumacher, says the proposals,
would compromise patient-doctor confidentiality. Ann Cavoukian,
Ontario鈥檚 Privacy Commissioner, points out that
the legislation would not even allow her to halt inappropriate uses of the data.
