Worried about the health effects of mobile phones? You may have to wait for a
definitive answer, says the US General Accounting Office. Although no studies
have proved that radio-frequency signals from mobile phones cause cancer or
other ailments, some have raised questions worth investigating. But a new GAO
report warns that 鈥渋t will likely be many more years before a definitive
conclusion can be reached.鈥� The GAO criticised the Federal Communications
Commission for not developing standard test procedures to verify emission limits
for cellphones set in 1996, and for having only one specialist to perform
in-house radiation tests and analyse company test reports.
