A tennis racket with a ventilated handle will make for a cooler game, letting
players chuck away grip tape and sticky resins. Oliver Tiura, an inventor based
in Toronto, has patented a racket with a hole near the base of the head that
funnels air through the hollow handle every time the racket is swung. The air
escapes through holes in the grip into the player鈥檚 palm, blowing away slippery
sweat and improving grip. 鈥淚f it works, it would be really useful. Players will
do anything to keep their hands dry,鈥 says Fred Viancos of the US Professional
Tennis Association鈥攖hough he鈥檚 sceptical that enough cool air will be
delivered to make a difference.
