REPUBLICANS are three times as likely as Democrats to have nightmares, says a
sleep researcher from the Santa Clara University in California. After analysing
four years鈥� worth of dreams from 56 college students, Kelly Bulkeley found that
half the Republicans鈥� dreams were nightmares compared with 18 per cent for the
Democrats.
鈥淲hat鈥檚 striking is that the nightmares of people on the right are . . .
bleaker [and] there is more hopelessness,鈥� says Bulkeley, who presented his
results last week in Santa Cruz at the annual meeting of the Association for the
Study of Dreams. 鈥淚f I were a Republican right now, I鈥檇 be having nightmares
too,鈥� said a Democrat spokesman. A Republican spokesman blamed the dreams on the
鈥渕ess鈥� inherited from Bill Clinton.
