Sports bras with electronic underwiring could help make running and other
sports more comfortable, according to Michael Pottenger of Santa Monica (WO
01/54524). His bra design has piezoelectric strips woven into the breast cups.
As the breasts move up and down, they flex the piezo strips, generating a
electricity. A two-way switch lets the wearer direct the electricity to a
resistor, stiffening the strip and damping the motion of the breast. This
steadies the breast movement and warms them as a bonus. Alternatively, the
switch can power separate piezo strips that more actively counteract breast
motion.
