Computer cookies could be banned in Europe on the grounds that they infringe
privacy. Websites download these software tags onto your computer so that they
can identify you when you revisit. But some members of the European Parliament
are concerned that this will reveal individuals鈥 personal information without
their knowledge. MEPs will vote next week on whether to ban them. But Danny
Meadows-Klue, head of Britain鈥檚 Interactive Advertising Bureau, says that
Internet companies could lose 拢187 million a year in advertising revenues
in Britain alone if cookies are restricted. The IAP has launched a 鈥淪ave our
Cookies鈥 campaign to raise awareness of the proposed clampdown.
