Testicular transplant

A British man is set to become the first in the world to father a child after
having a testicular transplant. The man suffered from Hodgkin鈥檚 lymphoma.
Chemotherapy for the disease leaves over nine out of ten men infertile, so
doctors at the Christie Hospital in Manchester removed sperm-producing germ
cells from the man鈥檚 testes, froze them in liquid nitrogen, and reimplanted the
tissue two years later after chemotherapy had dealt with the disease. His wife
has since become pregnant. However, doctors caution that the man could have
regained his sperm count naturally, and are awaiting results from six other men
who have undergone the procedure.
