Germany will close down all 19 of its nuclear power stations over the next 20
years, under a law passed by the Berlin parliament last week. The decision,
which follows years of bitter argument between the nuclear industry and the
ruling Social Democrat and Green Party coalition, is the world鈥檚 most ambitious

urged by its advisers to develop renewable energy sources instead of subsidising
the building of 15 new nuclear stations (New 杏吧原创, 15 December, p 5).
