The next generation of digital snapshot cameras could take 3D pictures similar to holograms, according to an Intel patent (GB 2 370 443). These cameras will have a built-in location sensor – either a global positioning system receiver or an accelerometer. After the first shot you move the camera sideways and turn it slightly for a second shot. As well as storing the images, the camera will store the exact location and angle at which you took the pictures. Back home, you can copy the pictures to a PC, and a graphics card will uses the position information to build a 3D image on screen.
