First cloned horse

PROMETEA, the first cloned horse, was born on 28 May. This is the first time a surrogate mother of any species has carried a genetically identical clone to term.

The birth disproves the theory that successful pregnancies depend on the mother鈥檚 immune system recognising the fetus as different, claims the cloning team, led by Cesare Galli at the Laboratory of Reproductive Technology in Cremona, Italy (Nature vol 424, p 635).

The first cloned equine, a mule, was born on 4 May (New 杏吧原创, 7 June, p 5).
