鈥淭HERE is something about mountains,鈥� writes Gregory McNamee in his introduction, 鈥渢hat sends humans into states of consciousness that are far from our normal modes of being鈥�. Well, not all humans. Mark Twain, one of dozens selected for this anthology, found tall mountains 鈥渄isagreeable鈥�. Though most writers here 鈥� and McNamee鈥檚 delightful mix includes the Wind River Shoshone tribe, King David the writer of the biblical psalms, and Ernest Hemingway 鈥� mirror the editor鈥檚 delight in the high places.
