鈥淭HERE is something about mountains,鈥 writes Gregory McNamee in his introduction, 鈥渢hat sends humans into states of consciousness that are far from our normal modes of being鈥. Well, not all humans. Mark Twain, one of dozens selected for this anthology, found tall mountains 鈥渄isagreeable鈥. Though most writers here 鈥 and McNamee鈥檚 delightful mix includes the Wind River Shoshone tribe, King David the writer of the biblical psalms, and Ernest Hemingway 鈥 mirror the editor鈥檚 delight in the high places.
